SPURS WANT MORATA IN BALE DEAL
Just a quick thing on Gareth Bale before we get to the other gossip.
There's a quick line in The Independent about the latest player that Spurs apparently want thrown into the Gareth Bale deal - and it's young striker Alvaro Morata.
The paper claims: 'Daniel Levy, the Tottenham chairman, has made it clear in opening discussions with the Madrid board that he wants the highly rated striker included in the deal.
'A meeting between Levy and Real Madrid's president, Florentino Perez, is scheduled for this week in Florida, with Real due to play in Miami on Wednesday, but the Tottenham chairman will attend only if Real are willing to negotiate Morata's inclusion in the deal.'
ROONEY TO HAND IN TRANSFER REQUEST
Ah, here we go.
The Daily Express reports that Wayne Rooney will hand in a transfer request at Manchester United very soon indeed - this week, in fact, in the hope that it will 'prompt an improved £30million offer from Chelsea.
The paper claims: 'United remain adamant they will not sell such a key player to one of their Premier League title rivals but Rooney's decision to put his transfer request in writing this week will change the dynamic of a saga that has been simmering for months.'
For what it's worth, The Sun reckons United have already rejected that improved £30million offer, but frankly nobody knows what the hell is going on.
WEST BROM IN FOR DEFOE?
Interesting one in The Sun, who report that West Brom are the latest club in for Jermain Defoe.
Defoe of course won't be a regular at Spurs this season, what with the arrival of Roberto Soldado and stuff, so several teams are sniffing around.
Stoke, Newcastle and QPR are keen, but according to the paper Steve Clarke thinks playing Defoe with Nicolas Anelka is his trump card.
PALACE NOW IN FOR BENT
According to The Daily Mirror, Crystal Palace have big plans.
The paper claims that they are the 'surprise leaders' in the race to sign Darren Bent, who has attracted interest from Fulham and Newcastle, and Bent would apparently be quite keen on a move to Palace.
The Mirror also reckons that, along with the signing of Marouane Chamakh, they're keeping an eye on Scott Parker's situation at Spurs.
