SPURS TARGET SUAREZ
Frankly, we're surprised the papers have taken so long to catch on to this idea. It doesn't require much imagination to envisage a Spurs move for Luis Suarez if/when Gareth Bale leaves and that's the line the People, the Daily Star and the Daily Mirror are running on Sunday.
'AVB believes the money (for Bale) should be used to snare Suarez to form a deadly partnership with Spaniard Robert Soldado,' report the Mirror, while the Star chime in with: 'Spurs chairman Daniel Levy knows he would have to land a marquee signing to replace double footballer of the year Bale.'
The Star also add that Bayern Munich are back in for the striker despite chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge stating that there will be no more arrivals before the window closes.
We're taking all this with a considerable pinch of salt.
SPURS CHASE ERIKSEN AND ALDERWEIRELD
Now this seems a little more likely, as Spurs apparently plot a double swoop for Ajax pair Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld.
According to the Mirror, Spurs 'have launched an audacious £15million double bid' for the duo with the 'audacity' presumably deriving from the fact that Ajax would never accept such a low price.
'The Spurs move threatens to hijack Liverpool's interest in the duo. The Reds have been long-time favourites to sign two of Europe's most gifted young players whose contracts expire next summer,' claim the Mirror.
'Both have turned down a string of proposed transfers this summer to wait for the right Premier League club - until now believed to be Liverpool.'
A move for Alderweireld is perhaps more essential for Spurs after they allowed Steven Caulker to join Cardiff, but it would be some coup if they can get their hands on Eriksen as well.
ARSENAL CLOSE IN ON GUSTAVO
It looks like Arsenal could finally spend some money as they close in on a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Luis Gustavo.
According to the Daily Mail, Arsene Wenger has launched a £14million bid for the Brazil international as he switches his focus to strengthening the Gunners' midfield while a move for Luis Suarez stalls.
The Mail report: 'Wenger, who is increasingly downbeat about attempts to sign Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, admits his squad are not strong enough to cope with a Premier League-Champions League double whammy and is ready for action after a quiet summer, which has seen only French youngster Yaya Sanogo come in.'
Wenger said "there is nothing concrete yet" when asked about Gustavo but it seems the manager is keen to secure the 26-year-old before the Champions League play-off against Fenerbahce.
Meanwhile, the Star claim that Wayne Rooney could be back in Arsenal's sights as a move for Suarez appears increasingly unlikely.
