UNITED MOVE FOR BALE?
Here we go.
We're surprised nobody has gone big on this one before, but The Independent rights that particular wrong by reporting that Manchester United have joined the race for Gareth Bale.
According to the paper, United 'may offer competition to Real Madrid' this week, and rather surprisingly they also report that Spurs might - might - be more receptive to the move, after growing tired with Real's dicking around.
However, The Indy claims: 'The odds are stacked against such a deal coming to fruition. The impediments to United securing Bale include Spurs' valuation which is believed to be around £110m, though the appeal of Javier Hernandez to the north London club could conceivably help in that department. It is also unclear whether United would be able to agree personal terms with Bale.'
So, in summary, they might make a bid, or they might not, and even if they do Spurs might not accept it, but even if they do Bale might not want to sign for them.
GUSTAVO CLOSE TO ARSENAL
To repeat a line that was in quite a few papers on Sunday, Arsenal are apparently pretty close to the signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo, according to The Daily Telegraph.
Bayern are willing to sell, and according to reports in Germany Gustavo is theoretically keen, but is weighing things up.
Meanwhile, the Telegraph claims a final bid for Luis Suarez, despite etc and so on and so forth, is in the offing.
The paper reports: 'Wenger admitted after Arsenal's 3-1 win over Manchester City on Saturday that he felt his squad was "a little bit thin" and he has still not given up on signing Liverpool striker Luis Suárez.
'A final bid approaching £50 million is expected for Suárez but Arsenal are also taking a renewed interest in Wayne Rooney's situation following Chelsea's failure to complete a deal.'
CHELSEA IN FOR ETO'O
Jose Mourinho has a plan. A plan B, specifically. A plan B if Chelsea don't manage to bag Wayne Rooney.
And that plan B goes by the name Samuel Eto'o.
Apparently Chelsea won't exactly bust their balls to get Rooney, so attention has turned to Eto'o.
The Daily Star claims: 'The 32-year-old has been with Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala for the last couple of seasons, earning a stunning £17m-a-year salary after tax.
'But the bubble at Anzhi looks to have burst and Mourinho is considering giving Eto'o - who played for him at Inter Milan - another crack at the big time.'
NOTHING TO SEE HERE
According to Roberto Martinez, there was nothing untoward in Marouane Fellaini's absence from Everton's friendly with Real Betis on Sunday.
"Marouane would have been available if it was a competitive game," said Martinez.
"He picked up a cut on the US tour. Bearing in mind he has to join the Belgium squad now - and in two days the infection will clear - I didn't want to risk hurting him."
DOWNING CLOSE TO WEST HAM
Quick one from The Sun, who claim that Stewart Downing is 'close' to signing for West Ham.
The winger has been given permission to speak to the Hammers after they agreed a fee of around £6million with Liverpool.
Downing and Carroll - the old band is truly back together.
