KRUL TO BE KIND OF ARSENAL KEEPER
The Sun on Sunday call it a 'shock swoop' but this was first mentioned back in July. They must be easily shocked. Anyway, they say that 'Arsene Wenger is set to make a shock swoop for £10 million-rated Newcastle keeper Tim Krul' while also going back to Newcastle with a £17m offer for Yohan Cabaye which Newcastle would of course find very difficult to turn down. The other name mentioned by The Sun is Angel Di Maria, who will apparently cost them £22m. Before you ask, Karim Benzema's agent has already said there's no chance of that deal happening.
Meanwhile, 'Arsenal could offer Juan Mata a surprise escape route from Chelsea', reports The Sunday People. Quite why he would need an escape route when Jose Mourinho has said quite clearly that he is not for sale is anybody's guess, but we're just the Gossip Column and we have a duty to bring you this s***. They also suggest Manchester United and Tottenham as possible destinations for one of the best players in the Premier League last season.
BALE IN SPAIN NOW
It's not done yet but it's bloody close. The Mail on Sunday claim that Gareth Bale is now in Spain - he apparently 'flew to Malaga in a private jet and then travelled by taxi to Marbella, where he is expected to stay while negotiations conclude, last-minute hitches permitting'. There are reportedly two deals on the table for Tottenham - £86m over a three/four-year period or £70m up front. Hard decision, eh. Anyway, Bale is expected to be unveiled in Madrid on Tuesday.
LAMELA AND ERIKSEN FOR SPURS
'Tottenham plan to bounce back from losing Brazil international Willian to Chelsea by signing £25million striker Erik Lamela from Roma this week,' says the Mail on Sunday. The deal will apparently be completed just as soon as Roma find a replacement for Lamela. It will push Jermain Defoe closer to the exit door (not to Arsenal. Sorry Steven Howard of The Sun), with Harry Redknapp ready to add him to his 2004 England side at QPR.
Lamela may also be joined at Tottenham by Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen, who could be available for as little as £10m. The sound you can hear in the distance is a million Liverpool fans exploding.
GIVING UP ON ROONEY?
Both the Mail on Sunday and the Sunday Telegraph are in agreement that Chelsea have now given up on Wayne Rooney - though other newspapers talk of a final £35m or £40m bid to be made after Monday's big clash. The MoS and Sunday Tel versions are probably more interesting, with Rooney very much cast as the loser in this scenario. He wants out and United are willing to sell, but Chelsea are more interested in getting Samuel Eto'o for just a few quid.
'The transfer of Eto'o, the 32-year-old former Inter Milan and Barcelona striker, is part of the agreement to sign Brazilian international Willian but Jose Mourinho does not want Eto'o's involvement to become public until after tomorrow night's Premier League game against Manchester United,' reports the Sunday Telegraph.
