Chelsea on 'red alert' for Rooney, Carvalho for United, Toivonen for Liverpool and Ince/Lamela Spurs nonsense...
JUVE WANT XABI
Let's start with word from the Italian press this fine Thursday morning.
According to Tuttosport, Juventus want to sign Xabi Alonso when the transfer window opens again in January.
The story's in Italian, so we're a little sketchy on the details, but we assume they think that, with Andrea Pirlo currently there, they believe their midfield doesn't have enough handsome beardy men who can pass the ball like Yehudi Menuhin played the violin.
Pretty sure that's what the story says.
UNITED CLAIM, CLAIM, CLAIM
Quick couple of lines about the fall-out from Manchester United's transfer window now.
According to The Times, United never had any intention of signing Mesut Ozil, despite reports that they tried to gazump Arsenal for the German playmaker in the final hours of the transfer window.
Meanwhile, in The Daily Telegraph, there's word that United are 'privately mystified and annoyed' about the criticism of them over their summer business.
Finally, you'll probably have read what Ander Herrera said about that whole hot mess already, but in case you haven't, here are his words:
"The only option, as the president said, was to pay my clause. I was never told United would pay the clause.
"At no time have either I or my agent reached an agreement with United.
"I've been silent because the important thing was (Sunday's) game at Real Madrid. Today I'm here, with no problem, with the truth.
"I will continue to demonstrate my commitment to the club as I have since the first day I arrived. I speak for me. I do not speak of other cases. The club can confirm that my behaviour has been fantastic.
"I'm very flattered to see that one of the biggest clubs in the world, such as United, bid for me (but) I did not talk at any time with United. I've been very quiet."
LUIZ TURNED DOWN BARCA
Just as the title says, David Luiz has told us all that he rejected a move to Barcelona during the summer.
"There was an official offer [from Barcelona], but I decided to stay at Chelsea," Luiz told Gazeta Esportiva.
"I am happy to play for a big club and be in the national team to represent my country."
EVERTON SET FOR BAINES TALKS
Now the grubby business of the transfer window is over, Everton are all set to open new contract talks with Leighton Baines.
Roberto Martinez said: "When the window is open I think it's the wrong time to speak about those things and so we hadn't discussed it.
"But now the window is closed, we are going to look into all the players in the squad and see where their contracts are up to.
"Then, individually, we will look to address that.
"It would just have created more instability if we had done that while the window was open."
...& BUTTNER WANTS OUT
And the man who Manchester United wanted him to replace isn't too happy. Alex Buttner is mad as hell, and won't take it anymore.
Well, he said he wants to leave Manchester United on loan. Through his agent.
"It's unbelievable that Coentrao was not signed on time. Whether that is an error on the part of Real or United doesn't matter," Alexander Bursac is quoted by SHOUTsport as saying.
"We have received assurances of a loan. Alex is not necessarily looking for a guarantee of playing time but he does not want to spend the entire season on the bench.
"Under Sir Alex Ferguson, Buttner was the up and coming man.
"He started playing in more games and was trusted in training. That sense of trust is not there now."
