Chelsea on 'red alert' for Rooney, Carvalho for United, Toivonen for Liverpool and Ince/Lamela Spurs nonsense...
CHELSEA SNIFFING ROUND BARKLEY
Interesting one in The Daily Mail - they report that Chelsea are keeping a close eye on Ross Barkley.
The paper reports: 'Sportsmail understands a senior Stamford Bridge scout will be deployed to Goodison Park on Saturday night with the brief of solely watching the 19-year-old.
'Barkley is viewed as one of the best emerging talents in English football, a fact that was underlined last week after Roy Hodgson handed him his England debut in the 4-0 win over Moldova.'
And here's what Jose Mourinho said this week: "I like a young player, a young English player. The market is closed but I asked a question to position myself to see where he was. We are speaking about a very young player but his price was like he has 50 caps when he had none.
"The price for English players is very high, the market is very difficult."
And he might be talking about Barkley there. Or he might not.
ETO'O NEARLY SIGNED FOR ARSENAL
Hey, Sammy Eto'o very nearly signed for Arsenal.
Anyway, here he is: "I met Luis at a crucial moment in my life where I had to take the right direction - and thanks to him I did," Eto'o told The Sun.
"I was about to sign that very afternoon at Arsenal and maybe I would have never been the player I am today.
"Luis picked me, then I ended up joining Barcelona. That decision changed everything."
HOLLOWAY TRIED FOR ZAHA
Ian Holloway is quite the optimist, isn't he?
Holloway confirmed that he tried to re-sign Wilfried Zaha on loan before the end of the transfer window.
When asked the last time he tried to re-sign Zaha, Holloway said: "The day the window shut. Just in case.
"I think out of respect to them I knew damn well they wouldn't do it. What would that look like? And there will be enough competitions to give him some games.
"I have been continually asking because the person who brought him isn't there anymore.
"I think from Wilf's point of view it would be much easier for Sir Alex to play him.
"David has just gone in and sometimes with Wilf it is a risk as he doesn't always track back.
"But I think his career at Man United will be a success because of the boy that he is. David will select him at the right time, which is completely right."
ROMA IN FOR HOLTBY/SANDRO?
Quick barrel-scrape to round things off.
According to SHOUTsport, Roma are 'plotting a double raid on Tottenham for Lewis Holtby and Sandro when the transfer window opens in January.'
Inter are also keen on Sandro, it says here, who would cost 'in excess' of £12.5million.
