UNITED IN FOR SHAW
A number of sages, including some on this website, commented that during Manchester United's chase for Leighton Baines, they should really be going after someone like Ben Davies or Luke Shaw, with an eye for the future.
And it seems United have been listening to us. Probably. That's definitely how this works.
The Daily Star reports that United, having 'conceded defeat' on Baines, will move for Shaw in the January transfer window.
However, it won't be easy - apparently the fee will could be something close to £25million, which seems slightly mental, and there will be competition.
The paper claims Chelsea are also interested, and since Shaw is a Chelsea fan, that would be his 'preferred destination'. Spurs are also keen, but Andre Villas-Boas 'has been impressed' by Danny Rose, so that might not happen.
CONTE LINED-UP BY ARSENAL
The Daily Star is the place to be for gossip this morning.
The paper reports that Arsenal have a plan B should their contract talks with Arsene Wenger go south.
And that plan B is Antonio Conte.
The paper says: 'According to Italian publication Sports Media Net, Conte, who has managed the Old Lady for two seasons, is the man the Arsenal board believe could break the north London club's cycle of trophy-less seasons.
'While Conte is thought to be open to a move to the Premier League in the near future, any chance of keeping Wenger's services after a trophy winning season, would seem the most likely outcome.'
MARICA TO 'REVEAL NEW CLUB'
Tension mounts. The clock ticks. Nerves jangle.
Football's version of LeBron James's 'The Decision' is close, as Ciprian Marica becomes closer to revealing who his new club will be.
Marica is quoted by The Daily Star as saying: "I am in negotiations with three teams.
"I hope I will be able to tell you the name of my next team by the end of next week."
We wonder where he's going to take his talents.
ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE EAST MIDLANDS
A couple of loan updates now.
Firstly, Chelsea midfielder Nathanial Chalobah joined Nottingham Forest on loan last night, until January.
And secondly, Paul Lambert says Marc Albrighton will be loaned out by Aston Villa, with Derby the most likely place for the winger.
While Wenger can be annoying in persisting with certain players (like Cygyan), his continued stay does not depend on whether he wins a trophy or not! you stupid fools... do you not know he has a job for life at AFC? He is not going anywhere ..... You want a trophy, go support City or Chelsea.- ihatebullcrap
