BAINES AT LAST
They might change their minds after Friday night but the Daily Mirror are claiming that it will be third time lucky for Manchester United and Leighton Baines this January, with a £16m move likely to be completed. Sir Alex Ferguson tried in the summer of 2012 and David Moyes tried again in the summer, but this time money will talk. Patrice Evra is likely to leave the club to return to France. £16m for a 29-year-old left-back? Really? Could they not get Fabio Coentrao cheaper?
He was once sent off for fighting his own teammate while playing for Palmeiras and now David Moyes wants Sporting Lisbon defender Mauricio, according to the Daily Mirror. United have Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans but Moyes obviously thinks he needs more reinforcements and so is turning to the 25-year-old Mauricio, who only joined Lisbon in the summer on a five-year contract.
JACKSON TO CHELSEA?
It looks like Jackson Martinez will be the next big name to leave Porto for around £35m after 34 goals in 40 games for the Portuguese side. The Daily Star claim that Chelsea are the favourites (Jose Mourinho went to watch Belgium v Colombia this week) but there will be plenty of other teams - Tottenham and Liverpool have been previously linked - who will fancy the 28-year-old striker.
"The years are passing and one day I hope to make a good transfer," said Martinez this week. "It clearly depends on Porto, a club that sells its players so well. Leaving or staying depends on Porto but I will only go if there is something concrete."
