Arsenal want German right-back, United eye Dutch youngster, Terry must accept 50% pay-cut, Pardew hoperful on Remy...
GO ARD OR GO HOME
They both need a creative midfielder so it kind of makes sense that reports in Turkey - faithfully reproduced in the Daily Express - suggest that Manchester United and Liverpool are both eyeing Atletico Madrid midfielder Arda Turan in January. The catch is that he has a £33m release clause in his contract and that kind of money might put him beyond Liverpool's budget at least. After all, that's almost the price of an Andy Carroll.
This is what Turan's agent Ahmet Bulut said last season when there was talk of interest from both red teams: "A destination in the Premier League would be to the liking of the player and I can confirm there are clubs interested, like the two mentioned. He wants to work in England."
But, to be fair, that was before Atletico Madrid threatened to break up the hegemony of the Big Two in Spain.
WHO NEXT FOR UNITED?
The door seems to be closed as far as Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera is concerned ("I am tired about this issue") but the Daily Star has come up with the names of two other players who United could target in January. Of course, they are the names we have heard 427 times before - Real Madrid's Angel Di Maria and Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke.
But these quotes from Moyes last week suggest that United fans getting excited should perhaps calm their jets: "To make January sound as if that would be the place where everything would be cured and any problems would be resolved would be wrong. It is not me saying we are not going to sign any players in January. We are going to try to if the opportunity is there. But it has to fit the right criteria. If it doesn't we will have to wait until the summer and see if we can get the players then."
CABAYE OPENS DOOR
You may have seen these quotes from Yohan Cabaye - "I miss the Champions League. I'll finish this season with Newcastle and concentrate on the coming months and then we'll see" - but you may not have immediately though 'he's opening the door to a summer move to Arsenal or Liverpool'. Unless you're the Daily Star and you're completely jumping the gun about Liverpool being in the Champions League. Newcastle won't let him go for less than £20m though apparently.
