ARSENAL IN FOR CAVANI (MAYBE)
Having Edinson Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the same town was always going to be tricky, and it appears that the Uruguayan quite fancies a move elsewhere in January.
The Daily Express are the first to show their hand, claiming that Arsenal are the first club to sit up and take notice, but they then rather pour water on their own story by saying that Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea are also interested. So that's four of the most high-profile clubs in Europe then?
The Daily Star then take a completely different angle, reporting that Arsenal have 'baulked at the wage demands' of Cavani, apparently on £135,000 in Paris, putting City and Chelsea on red alert.
As you may well have guessed by now, both papers use exactly the same quotes from Le10Sport to reach those two rather dissimilar conclusions.
LIVERPOOL IN TALKS WITH BARCA YOUNGSTER
Liverpool have had a fairly strong line in Spanish left-sided players down the years, and it appears that those in power at Anfield are close to adding Barcelona's Martin Montoya to such names as Albert Riera, Alvaro Arbeloa, Luis Garcia and Jose Enrique.
The 22-year-old is out of contract next summer, and the Guardian report that Liverpool are aiming to complete a permanent deal in January in order to avoid a predicted scrum of agents and scouts when the Spain U21 defender will be available on a free.
Montoya, also comfortable at right-back, has found his opportunities limited at the Camp Nou, making just 30 league appearances in two-and-a-half seasons. He has won the last two U21 European Championships with his country. Liverpool are currently 5th favourites with Coral Betting to take the title this year, and the addition of Montoya may help the cause.
COENTRAO ON MOURINHO'S RADAR
Not quite sure what Ashley Cole would think about the situation, but the Daily Mail are this morning claiming that Jose Mourinho will launch a bid to land Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao on loan in January.
The Mail are also sweeping under the rug somewhat the fact that Cesar Azpilicueta performed admirably in the position during Cole's recent injury absence, but there are genuine reasons for believing a deal may happen, namely:
1) Mourinho signed Coentrao for Real Madrid
2) Coentrao was a confidante of Mourinho amidst reports of him losing the Bernabeu dressing room
3) Coentrao has fallen out of favour at the Bernabeu under Carlo Ancelotti, starting just four league games this season.
4) They are both Portuguese
5) They both share the same agent, one Jorge Mendes
