BRAZILIAN RIBEIRO IN UNITED TALKS
Well, it's a midfielder United fans. The Daily Mirror go big this morning on news that Cruzeiro midfielder Everton Ribeiro is 'in talks' with Manchester United and that the Premier League champions (for now) would have to part with more than £15million to tempt the Brazilian club to sell.
One thing that could lead you to taking the story with a pinch of salt is that the quotes come from the player's agent Robson Ferreira, who clearly has a more than vested interest in generating rumours from such a prestigious bidder.
"Manchester United want him. David Moyes has been impressed," Ferreira said.
"I've already been to England and talked personally with them. In United's opinion, he is the complete midfielder."
We'd make a pun about David Moyes buying a player called Everton but, y'know, it's the weekend.
BARCA JOIN ENGLISH CLUBS IN HUNT FOR GUARIN
He isn't a player that we have heard too many rumours about of late, but The Daily Express this morning claim that Barcelona boss Tata Martino has identified Inter Milan midfielder Fredy Guarin as his principle target in January.
The news, we are told, will come as something of a blow to Manchester United, Chelsea and Spurs, all of whom were putting on their lipstick and mascara ready to pout and flutter at the Colombian in the upcoming window.
Chelsea in particular are discussed, with the paper casually mentioning that the Blues will make a triple swoop on Inter, with Andrea Ranocchia and Mateo Kovacic. Because what Chelsea need is two more midfielders and a centre-back.
FLAPPYHANDSKI OFF TO SCHALKE?
This story actually came out early yesterday, but is now being run by al the papers today - Arsenal goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski is weighing up a move to Bundesliga side Schalke.
The Daily Mail seem to have been the first to run with the story that Schalke are reportedly losing faith in Timo Hildebrand, who is now 34 and out of contract next summer.
Fabianski is now competing with both Wojciech Szczesny and Emiliano Viviano for a place at Arsenal, a mission that looks pretty near impossible, and will want to gain first-team football in a bid to regain his place as Polish number one.
Given that Schalke are still in the Champions League and fifth in the Bundesliga, we'd say Fabianski should pay for his own flight to Gelsenkirchen.
