GUNDOGAN RACE HEATS UP
Manchester United face serious competition for Ilkay Gundogan according to the Daily Mail, with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Arsenal all joining the race for the midfielder.
The Borussia Dortmund star is thought to be at the top of David Moyes' list of targets to improve United's midfield, but the Mail report: 'Gundogan's father has already met with members of the Barcelona board as the Catalan giants try to steal a march on their rivals for the 23-year-old's signature.
'Gundogan's contract with Dortmund expires at the end of the 2015 season while his relatively modest £25,000-a-week salary certainly leaves him open to a tempting offer from either the Premier League or La Liga.'
Meanwhile, Real Madrid apparently see Gundogan as the natural successor to Xabi Alonso, who has been linked with Juventus.
UNITED ALSO CHASING SNEIJDER
The story that refuses to die has raised its head again. This time it's the Guardian who link Wesley Sneijder with a move to Old Trafford, claiming that David Moyes is considering a January move for the midfielder to boost United's ailing title hopes.
'With the champions 13 points behind the leaders, Arsenal, and seven from a Champions League berth there is a renewed urgency to bolster the squad particularly in midfield,' report the Guardian.
'Sneijder came close to signing for United two seasons ago before the deal fell through because of contractual issues and. The Dutchman, who reportedly has release clause of around £13m, would represent a bargain.'
Moyes said at the weekend that he will not be forced into the transfer market, but it already seems that United have plenty of targets in mind to try and rescue their season.
ARSENAL SCOUTING DUTCH YOUNGSTER
According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal sent scouts to watch Ajax youngster Davy Klaassen on Saturday and left suitably impressed after the midfielder bagged a hat-trick against NAC Breda.
The 20-year-old has scored six times in ten matches so far this season and is being tipped as an outside bet to make Holland's World Cup squad.
'Although he plays in Ajax's midfield, he is capable of playing centre forward and has drawn comparisons with a young Dennis Bergkamp for his ability to create and score,' claim the Mail.
'Coach Frank de Boer said: "Davy is an attacking midfielder who can play centre forward. He's definitely very talented. Moreover, he's a smart guy."'
