Manchester United are plotting a January move for Colombia midfielder Fredy Guarin after opening talks with Internazionale.

'United boss David Moyes has been promised sizable funds to improve his under-fire team in the new year, and work has begun this week on trying to sign players,' report the Metro.

'The club want to bag at least two midfielders, with a creative type and a box-to-box enforcer topping the list of targets.'

United are reportedly hoping to secure Guarin for around £10million, but Spurs are also eyeing the 27-year-old.

The Daily Star go big with the rumour that Xabi Alonso could be set to return to England, claiming that Chelsea, Man United and Liverpool have all expressed an interest in the midfielder.

'Initial reports from Spain suggested Alonso - whose contract runs out at the end of the season - had agreed a new deal to stay at Real Madrid,' claim the Star.

'But now new reports from Madrid suggests his future at the Bernabeu is uncertain and that an answer will come in two to three weeks.'

Alonso will be free to talk to clubs in January unless he signs an extension with Madrid.

Talk of a Chelsea move for Falcao is refusing to disappear, with the Daily Express reporting that the striker's strained relationship with manager Claudio Ranieri could see him leave Monaco in January.

We'd imagine that Ranieri leaving is more likely.

'Publicly Monaco have continued to insist that Falcao is going nowhere but reports in France suggest that all is not well behind the scenes,' report the Express.

'And coupled with Russian owner Dmitry Rybolovlev's concerns about Financial Fair Play, the player's unhappiness means there remains a small chance that Monaco could try to offload the former Atletico Madrid star.'

Monaco are thought to want an astonishing £85million for Falcao, but it seems Chelsea will not be afraid to splash the cash in January as they also eye a £20million deal for Luke Shaw.

Southampton are adamant that Shaw won't be sold, but apparently that won't stop Chelsea from testing the water as they search for Ashley Cole's long-term replacement.

'Bertrand could be offered to Southampton as part of a bid for Shaw, but the 24-year-old is also admired by Liverpool, Everton and Sunderland,' claim the Telegraph.

There's also talk of a transfer merry-go-round, with Shaw joining Chelsea, allowing Bertrand to join Everton, and in turn Leighton Baines to Manchester United.

We're not sure who that leaves Southampton with. Danny Fox?
