After struggling to retain his place in Jose Mourinho's starting XI this season, it looks like Ashley Cole could be handed an exit route from Chelsea by Real Madrid.

The Daily Express claim that Carlo Ancelotti is keen to team up with the 33-year-old again and is preparing an offer of a short-term deal.

'Ancelotti - bracing himself to lose his current left-back Fabio Coentrao, who is unsettled - believes Cole is still capable of playing at the highest level and would get him cheaply in the January transfer window or on a free in the summer when his contract runs out,' report the Express.

'Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is anxious to bring in Southampton left-back Luke Shaw - also a target for Manchester United - but has been quoted a price of £35million.

'Chelsea are hoping to broker an agreement at a reduced fee of around £20m which would then push Cole down the pecking order.'

Manchester United's hopes of signing Leighton Baines in January have been dealt a blow by Roberto Martinez after the Everton manager insisted the left-back will remain at Goodison.

There have been reports linking United with a fresh £20million bid for Baines, but Martinez said: "I can guarantee that Leighton Baines will be here at the end of the season. That is 100 percent.

"Bryan Oviedo has been terrific while Baines has been injured, but we will need them both."

Arsenal are planning a January loan move for Alvaro Morata, according to the Daily Mail.

The Real Madrid youngster has scored twice in ten La Liga appearances this season, but has started only one match so far.

'Arsene Wenger will delay making a final decision on whether he needs to boost his squad for the title run-in by taking 21-year-old Morata, who is valued at around £15 million, on loan,' claim the Mail.

'Real manager Carlo Ancelotti has used Morata only sparingly and the club would be happy if he moved to Arsenal for six months on loan.

'Morata was the star of last summer's Under-21 European Championship in Israel, scoring four goals for Spain and winning the Golden Ball as top scorer in the tournament.'

According to the Daily Star, Liverpool are chasing a trio of new signings ahead of the transfer window opening on Wednesday.

The players in question are Basel winger Mohamed Salah, Sevilla midfielder Ivan Rakitic and Barcelona youngster Martin Montoya.

'Top of his wanted list is Basle attacking midfielder Mohamed Salah, known as the 'Egyptian Lionel Messi', who is valued at £10million,' report the Star.

'And the Liverpool boss has also earmarked a loan deal for Barcelona's Spanish left-back Martin Montoya, who can also double up as a central defender.

'That would mean Rodgers could release Daniel Agger to Napoli.'

Meanwhile, it's reported that Rakitic, who has seven goals and six assists in La Liga this season, has been watched by Liverpool scouts on several occasions as Rodgers prepares to strengthen his squad.
