MARCHISIO FOR MAN UNITED?
This reared its head in Italy yesterday and has made its way into the Daily Express today. The theory is that United have approached Juventus about the availability of Claudio Marchisio and could be willing to pay £20m for the 27-year-old who has started just ten games in Serie A this season. Juve might be happy to let him leave but the problem might be that Marchisio himself does not want to leave.
Here's what he said last month: "I want to continue winning with this jersey, I have no intention to change. But every year, especially in summer, there have been rumours that involved me. In addition to this one, I have another two years on my deal with Juventus. I hope to play as long as possible with this jersey, it's not my intention to change."
'Three of Manchester United's title-winning back four are likely to be victims of a David Moyes purge at Old Trafford,' claims the Daily Mail, who go on to say that David Moyes wants to 'unload several unwanted and unhappy players'.
The players likely to go? 'Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra could all leave with Javier Hernandez, Nani, Anderson, Alex Buttner and Anders Lindegaard likely to join them.'
This would certainly fit with The Guardian's contention that 'David Moyes faces a fight to convince several senior Manchester United players of his credentials following the dismal form that has resulted in three consecutive defeats for the first time in 13 years.'
LAMELA TO JUVENTUS?
This figures in several English and Italian newspapers but the Daily Mirror go big so we'll go big with them. They claim: 'Italian giants Juventus are ready to offer £30million Erik Lamela a way out of his Spurs hell - less than six months after he arrived. Juventus want Tottenham's record signing, and will give up their Montenegrin striker Mirko Vucinic in a part-exchange deal.'
The problem? Lamela's dad has admitted: "Tottenham does not want him to leave in January."
THE REAL MATA
Carlo Ancelotti keeps saying that Real Madrid are not interested in buying or selling in January, but still the newspapers bang their drums about Alvaro Morata joining Arsenal (or Liverpool) and Angel Di Maria exiting the Bernabeu. The latter rumour has led the Daily Express (amongst others) to speculate that Juan Mata could be the man identified by Real to replace the Argentine. Do we believe it? Do we balls.
