United to give Shaw loads o' cash, Dani Alves & Alex Song to leave Barca for England? Arsenal & Liverpool battle...
MATA IS JUST THE START...
And so, Juan Mata is a Manchester United player, but that isn't the end of their spending, according to The Sunday Times.
According to the paper United recognise that their squad is, how you say, a bit bobbins, and are looking to make five more signings of Mata's calibre.
They might not come in this transfer window, with most of their business likely to be done in the summer, but if the paper is right then it might be quite some business.
The Times claims: 'They are looking for top full-backs on either flank, at least two midfielders and another leading forward. Moves are being considered for Bayern Munich's Toni Kroos and Mario Mandzukic, Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal of Juventus, Inter Milan's Fredy Guarin, FC Porto's Fernando Reges and Borussia Dortmund's Marco Reus.'
Apparently they're keeping tabs on Glen Johnson's situation at Liverpool, which brings the frankly hilarious prospect of United's fans' reaction if they replace Rafael with him.
Elsewhere, The Daily Star Sunday claims United have made a 'big offer' - specifically, worth about £22.5million - for Luke Shaw, and they're now waiting on a response from Southampton, who are reluctant to sell.
Apparently Southampton want something closer to £30million for their left-back, with several other sides sniffing.
Also, The Sun on Sunday claims United are looking at Kasper Schmeichel. That kid must have quite an agent - last week it was AC Milan, now United. By complete coincidence, Schmeichel is currently involved in new contract talks at Leicester.
LIVERPOOL IN FOR BENFICA MIDFIELDER
We think this is a new rumour, something awfully rare in this churny world of transfer bullsniff.
The Sunday Times claims Liverpool are keen on Benfica midfielder Andre Gomes, an under-21 Portuguese international described as being 'known for his precise use of the ball.'
The paper reports: 'Gomes' opportunities at Benfica were limited by Nemanja Matic's excellence in the holding role, but his value to the club has increased since Matic's move to Chelsea earlier this month. Benfica want £12.4m for Gomes, 20.'
Apparently Brendan Rodgers thinks he needs a bit more in midfield given Steven Gerrard's fitness and Lucas Leiva's injury.
Elsewhere, The Sunday Mirror reckons Liverpool are looking at Saul Niguez, while The Sun on Sunday says they and Fulham are keen on Cologne midfielder Yannick Gerhardt.
DRAXLER DEAL CLOSE?
According to The Mail on Sunday, Arsenal are very close to sealing a deal for Julian Draxler, and something could be sorted this weekend.
The paper claims a deal should be sorted pretty quickly, as Arsene Wenger looks to capitalise on Arsenal's best chance to win the league in a decade.
The Mail reports: 'Schalke and Arsenal are still in negotiations for the 20-year-old but the player wants to move to the club and the expectation on both sides is that a compromise will be reached this week.
'Arsenal do not want to go higher than £30million while Schalke want close to £35m. Ultimately Arsenal are likely to agree to a deal with additional clauses that could bring the fee up to what Schalke want.'
LUKAKU SALE TO FUND CAVANI MOVE
Interesting line in The Sunday Mirror, who report that Chelsea will sell Romelu Lukaku in the summer in order to buy Edinson Cavani.
The paper reports that Jose Mourinho doesn't rate the big Belgian, despite all those goals he has been scoring, and will get rid should anyone bid around £23million, a curiously arbitrary figure, but who are we to doubt? Arsenal, Spurs and Atletico Madrid are keen, apparently.
Cavani is apparently not happy with being played out of position at PSG, and Chelsea are keen to swoop.
However, he will cost something like £50million, apparently.

3rd paragraph of the Liverpool section, Gomes'. His name is Gomes, not Gome. Singular possession = 's, regardless whether the last letter is "s" or not.- surprisedicare
