ZENIT WANT VERMAELEN
According to the Daily Mail, Zenit St Petersburg are preparing an offer for Arsenal's unsettled club captain Thomas Vermaelen.

The Belgian has made only seven appearances in the Premier League this season after losing his place in the starting line-up and would reportedly consider a move to boost his World Cup hopes.

'There are plenty of clubs who have been keen to take him, such as Napoli, but have so far failed with Wenger stressing his importance to the cause and Vermaelen wary of making the wrong move,' report the Mail.

'Ambitious Zenit have Belgian internationals Nicolas Lombaerts and Axel Witsel already in their line-up, they have the cash too to make a deal attractive to all parties but the timing may not be right for Arsenal.'

May not be right? No s**t.

MAN UNITED PLOT CARVALHO MOVE
Manchester United are weighing up a summer move for William Carvalho, report the Metro.

The 21-year-old midfielder is the latest hot prospect to come through the ranks at Sporting Lisbon, from whom United signed Cristiano Ronaldo in 2003.

According to the Metro: 'David Moyes will be handed a substantial transfer kitty to overhaul his squad at the end of the current campaign and a dominating midfielder remains a priority.

'United have been monitoring the youngster for some time and had scouts watching as Sporting drew 0-0 with Académica yesterday.'

Apparently Carvalho is under contract until 2018 and has a £37million buy-out clause in his current deal.

PELLEGRINI BLOCKED RODWELL'S EVERTON RETURN
This is mildly interesting. According to The Sun, Jack Rodwell was all set for a loan back to Everton on deadline day only for Manuel Pellegrini to pull the plug on the move.

The 22-year-old has struggled for form and fitness at City and was left on the bench on Monday with the hapless Martin Demichelis preferred in midfield.

'Everton had agreed a deadline-day loan deal - only for City to pull the plug when they failed to land Fernando, 26, from Porto,' claim The Sun.

City will reportedly return for Fernando when his contract expires in the summer, perhaps creating another opportunity for Rodwell to leave.

Reading the line about Courtois wanting a starting place, which he'll surely get if/when he performs well in the WC, makes me want to cry. Chelsea's team next year will be unstoppable.
