After Jose Mourinho admitted this week that Ashley Cole could leave Chelsea this summer, it was assumed that the England left back would make his next move abroad. However the Sunday Mirror this morning claim that Liverpool could approach Cole regarding a move to Anfield.

It is clear that Brendan Rodgers sees left-back as a problem position given the injuries/lack of form surrounding Joe Enrique and reasonable lack of long-term faith in Aly Cissokho, and therefore Cole would seem a viable option when his contract runs out. For his part, it would appear that Cole s not yet ready to move to the MLS, effectively ending his England chances.

The paper also claim that Manchester United could also get involved, but we can't really see them swapping one 33 year old for another.

As longer time goes on, the more gossip and rumours grow regarding Manchester United and David Moyes' summer 'warchest'. This morning, the Daily Star on Sunday throw their two cents into the ring, claiming that Moyes is prepared to spend £45million on Seamus Coleman and Luke Shaw.

In their EXCLUSIVE!, the paper report that despite being knocked back for Ross Barkley and Leighton Baines he will try and make Everton part with right-back Coleman for a fee of around £20m, with slightly more needed for Shaw, who would cost £25m with Chelsea and Manchester City also circling.

No quotes or evidence for the story obviously, but the thought of United starting a defence of Coleman, Jones, Smalling and Shaw at a cost of around £75million is rather eye-watering.

It's actually a very Exclusive-y day, because the Daily Express believe that they have the first line on Arsenal interest in Everton's Gareth Barry.

Arsenal did make an approach for Barry in the summer, but Manchester were reportedly unprepared to let him join a rival, but Barry's imperious Everton form has tempted Arsene Wenger into going back for the on-loan midfielder.

However, given that Barry will be 33 later this month, it would be a fairly short-term plan from Arsenal. Can't see it ourselves, but we've been wrong (once or twice) before.
