EVRA TO FOLLOW VIDIC OUT?
Could be quite a summmer at Old Trafford. Well, it will be quite a summer at Old Trafford anyway, but Patrice Evra leaving at the end of the season could complicate matters further.
And he could follow Nemanja Vidic out of the door in Manchester, and straight to Milan, for The Daily Express believes Inter, having all-but wrapped up a deal for the centre-back, are in talks with Evra as well, in some attempt to recreate the watertight Manchester United defence of 2009. Maybe they'll take Rio too.
Anyway, the paper claims: 'According to reports surfacing in Italy, Inter who are closing in on a deal for United defensive stalwart Nemanja Vidic, have set their sights on Evra.
'Italian publication TuttoMercatoWeb claims Inter director of sport Piero Ausilio flew out to London this afternoon where he met Evra.
'It is believed the pair then held exploratory talks over whether a move would be feasible.'
CITY JOIN RACE FOR SHAW
Popular wisdom is that Luke Shaw is the man United want to replace Evra, but they will have some serious competition for the Southampton youngster.
According to The Guardian, Manchester City are the latest club to show an interest in Shaw, although it might be a right old ding dong.
The paper reports: 'City face stiff competition from Chelsea and Manchester United for the 18-year-old but, with Gaël Clichy having lost his first-team berth and doubts about the defensive abilities of his replacement Aleksandar Kolarov, the Southampton defender represents an attractive, long-term investment.
'Chelsea are in pole position, with Shaw being a fan of the club and the training ground in Cobham being close to where his parents live.'
LIVERPOOL IN FOR KRKIC
One does wonder about Liverpool's transfer policy.
When they very clearly need some sort of defensive help, they seem intent on strengthening an already pretty strong attacking line. If you can call this one strengthening, of course.
The Daily Mirror reports this morning that they are keen on Mr Bojan 'Goals' Krkic, the Barcelona striker currently on loan at Ajax, who they reckon they could get for as little as £5million.
Actually, there might be a small amount of logic here, as the Mirror reports:
'Just like Philippe Coutinho, snapped up from Inter Milan for £8.5m 13 months ago, Krkic fits the Anfield bill perfectly - a young player with a massive reputation who played more than 100 games for Barca, but has lost his way a little in recent seasons.
'The Reds will monitor the situation, and if they can do a deal at around the £5m mark they are ready to make their move in the summer.
VILLA WANT RID OF GIVEN
One for the 'no sh*t' files here - according to Shay Given, Aston Villa want him to leave in the summer.
Given, who has been on loan at Middlesbrough this season, is quoted by The Daily Star as saying: "Hopefully something will happen in the summer. It has been really frustrating not playing.
"That's obvious for everyone to see and the window doesn't open until the summer, so maybe there is a Championship club out there who might want me.
"I might go back out on loan again somewhere before the end of March. Aston Villa want me out of the door, so something might happen."
