The Settled Gossip

Joe Allen to United (the silliest one we've seen), Arsenal to pay £50m for Cavani, Milan want Torres & Van Ginkel...

A busy summer ahoy at Manchester United, with word in the papers on Wednesday that David Moyes wants to buy eight new players.

However, it's one who might be leaving that leads this here Gossip Column, as The Daily Mirror suggests Javier Hernandez might be on his way.

And they base their story on some admittedly irked-sounding words from Hernandez while on international duty with Mexico.

He said: "I'm very eager to play as my club don't take me much into account. I hope I have the opportunity to play [for Mexico].

"When you are called up, you have to be thankful and if not called up, you have to keep working.

"I'm very happy and thankful with this call-up, like I was when I was called up for the first time."

Tottenham, Inter Milan and Juventus are keen, it says here, with United asking for £15million.

The Sun get awfully excited about some words from Jose Mourinho this morning, which is a big change, we think you'll agree.

Mourinho said on Wednesday, when asked who his pick for a young player to watch at the World Cup was: "A young player must be somebody who plays in the World Cup for the first time so we cannot choose a player for example who is 23, 24-years-old who has played already because that is not the concept of a young player.

"A young player who goes for the World Cup for the first time, I would say [Eden] Hazard for sure, Neymar, Rafa Varane and maybe I forget some others but direct to my mind comes Varane, Neymar and Eden and I apologise if I forgot any other one.

"I think he [Varane] is the best central defender in the world, a young one I think he's the best. Already, yes. I think he's the best."

And thus, a transfer rumour is born.

If The Daily Mail is to be believed, the Sunderland squad is going to look pretty different next season, with several players set to leave, unless their contract disputes are sorted, pronto.

The paper says the club are 'facing a huge battle' to keep a number of their better players, specifically Jack Colback, Phil Bardsley, Craig Gardner and Seb Larsson, all out of contract in the summer and all yet to agree new deals.

Apparently Bardsley and Colback have started negotiations but aren't happy with the terms offered, while Gardner and Larsson haven't even started talks yet, leading to suggestions that all four could do one.

The paper claims: 'Sunderland's precarious top-flight status is believed to be a key factor in the north-east club's tentative approach to re-negotiating existing player contracts.

'The club will be forced to reduce their playing budget next season should they suffer relegation, something that will have an impact on the size of contracts.'

That's Frank, according to his brother Ronald, who is quoted by SHOUTsport as saying:

"Frank has already denied Liverpool and Tottenham. Tottenham wanted to take him in January, but Frank said no.

"He also said no to Liverpool last year. He thought he was still not ready and wanted to learn more.

"Now he's ready though. We'll have to wait and see [what offers he gets]. It's important for Frank to get the right club otherwise he won't leave Ajax. He's very happy there."
