The Packed Gossip

Falcao remains in Liverpool talks (hmmm), Alex Song is heading to England, another low Schneiderlin bid rejected...

Arsene Wenger has reportedly shown interest in signing Michy Batshuayi from Standard Liege, and the 20-year-old striker has fluttered is eyelashes in the direction of them or any other club that fancies making a move.

Batshuayi is the top scorer in Belgium's Jupiler Pro League this season and, when asked whether he would be interested in a move, the forward rather let his tongue go a-wagging, as reported by the Daily Express.

"I don't think I will play for Standard next season," Batshuayi said.

"I want to move on. Maybe I will think about a longer stay if we play in the Champions League, but I want to progress as a player.

"My preferred destinations are England or Germany. If you ask my favourite team, I'll say Arsenal.

"It is a club with a good philosophy, where youngsters get their chance. I've been an Arsenal fan since I was a kid."

He might as well have driven to the Emirates and blown kisses from the front row at Wenger and Steve Bould.

All looks rather rosy at Goodison at present, with Roberto Martinez's side sitting three points above Manchester United, to the contentment of Everton supporters.

It comes as no surprise, therefore, that the Daily Mail report that both John Stones and James McCarthy are keen to sign new contracts, with the two players set to be offered new deals. The Daily Mirror go one step further by also claiming that Seamus Coleman will also be given an improved contract.

It's more than likely that both papers got that story from the mouth of the manager, who said this yesterday:

"We are already thinking about Ross, John Stones, and Seamus," said Martinez. Ah, so no-one mentioned Ross Barkley, so we're having that as an 'Exclusive' .

"I call it the young generation coming through. We want to reward them, even James McCarthy. That is something we will look at this summer. They are players with long-term contracts."

Although that sounds like a thinly veiled dig at McCarthy, it's probably more to do with the fact that he only joined the club last summer.

Whilst all is serene and dreamy at Anfield right now, it would be fair to say that no Liverpool fans would argue too much if the club recruited a defender in the summer. Neither Aly Cissokho or Kolo Toure were the answer, it seems.

That's exactly what the Daily Mirror claim will happen too, with the paper claiming that Sporting Lisbon's Argentinean left-back Marcos Rojo is the top of Brendan Rodgers' shopping list, who may well be Argentina's first choice left back at this summer's World Cup. Liverpool were reportedly scouting the defender during Sporting's 1-0 win over Porto this weekend.

Fact fans will be interested to learn that Marcos Rojo roughly translates as 'red frameworks'. Let's hope he forms the foundation of the Reds' defence next season, eh? Sh*t, sorry.
