EVERTON TARGET CLEVERLEY
The good news for Manchester United fans in the People this fine Sunday is that Everton are apparently prepared to pay £15m for Tom Cleverley. The bad news is that David Moyes is said to be 'wary of ditching the midfielder', largely, it seems, because he believes he will THRIVE (that's the People's capitalisation, not ours) with Everton. Which will make him look like a fool.
He will, it seems, take the risk on looking a fool when it comes to Wilfried Zaha; The Sun say he is prepared to sell him for just £5m after the club bought him for twice the price in January 2013. They could also offload Nick Powell to Swansea for £5m while Shinji Kagawa could go back to Borussia Dortmund on loan.
Does that equal the 'spectacular clear-out' predicted by the Sunday Telegraph? They throw in the names of Nemanja Vidic, who is joining Inter Milan, Rio Ferdinand, Javier Hernández, Nani and Anderson too and claim that Moyes could spend up to £200m on new players.
Names mentioned include Southampton's Luke Shaw, Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos, Sporting Lisbon's William Carvalho and Borussia Dortmund's Ikay Gundogan.
LIVERPOOL GO SWISS?
We have our doubts that Liverpool would buy a pair of midfielders who are 28 and 29, but who are we to question the Sunday People, who claim that Liverpool will throw in Pepe Reina as a sweetener to Napoli as they look to complete a double deal for Valon Behrami and Gökhan Inler.
They say: 'The Anfield giants value Reina at around £6.5million, with Inler and Behrami jointly rated at £15m. Talks between the two clubs are predicted for the end of the season to see if a deal can be struck.'
ASH COLE TO REAL?
What a great move that would be for Ashley Cole, who worked with Carlo Ancelotti when he was Chelsea manager. The Sun claim he has been offered an £8m two-year deal to join the Spanish giants.
A Bernabeu source told The Sun: "Ashley is a world class player and Madrid have wanted to sign him for some time. It is now the perfect opportunity as he is free."
The Sunday Mirror throw in Galatasaray as a possible suitor - along with Liverpool and Monaco - but we strongly suspect he would choose Madrid.
