Di Maria wants Manchester United move (or not), Liverpool are going to raid Southampton again and Lukaku to Real or Juve...
WELBECK TO SPURS?
One or two of today's papers report that Danny Welbeck is keen to leave United after failing to hold down a regular enough starting place. The logic seems to be that it is one thing occasionally being on the bench for the Premier League champions, but not for a sixth-place team.
However, the Sunday Mirror go one bigger and better, claiming that Spurs are intending to make Welbeck their number one priority this summer and are prepared to offer £20million for the forward, even though there is currently no real clarity as to who their manager will be next season.
After last summer, one can understand why Spurs would be keen to bring in players with Premier League experience, but if they need a proven goalscorer, not quite sure a wide forward such as Welbeck would necessarily be the answer to those problems. Still, if you're signing Danny Welbeck, what's not to like?
SMALLING INTERESTING ARSENAL
Another paper, and another young Manchester United player targeted by a North London club because he can't be guaranteed regular first-team football.
This time it's the Daily Star, who go big with their 'Exclusive' on Arsenal making a bid for Chris Smalling. You may know what we think of Daily Star transfer 'Exclusives', but let's run with this for now.
The paper reports that Smalling, who upset David Moyes recently by being pictured on a night out after a defeat, could be sold this summer, and that Arsene Wenger is a keen admirer of the defender's versatility. They also go as far as claiming that the fee for Smalling would be £13million.
CITY IN FOR MUNIAIN
Not quite sure that City really need another attacking midfielder, but when a potential star such as Iker Muniain becomes available for as little as £15million (close to Jack Rodwell's fee when joining from Everton), it would be churlish to think of such things as necessity.
That's the big transfer story in today's Sun, who believe that the Athletic Bilbao midfielder could be tempted to leave the San Mames this summer. Muniain, still 21, has only one cap for the Spanish national team but has continuously impressed under Ernesto Valverde, with Bilbao trying to pin him down to a new deal.
Muniain earns just (just?!) £2million a year in Spain, a figure that City would evidently be prepared to dwarf in order to tempt him to England, where he would provide competition for Samir Nasri, David Silva, Jesus Navas and Stevan Jovetic for a first-team place. That's quite a collection.
