We kind of miss Alex Song; we kind of miss the way he's supposed to be a defensive midfielder but always seemed to 'forget' and was often to be found on the edge of the penalty area trying to play one of those lofted through balls to Robin van Persie. Well, he could be doing exactly that again next season, if the Daily Mirror are right about Manchester United's interest in one of Barcelona's army of unwanted squad players.

But United will face competition from Liverpool, who also fancy a piece of Song at the rumoured price of £8m. The Mirror say that Song 'is understood to be receptive to the interest of both clubs', but we suspect a call from Arsene Wenger might see him arrive back in north London. Which would be lovely.

We do love a 'showdown talk' and The Sun claims that's exactly what has been happening at Southampton as Adam Lallana 'pleaded with the club to let him join Liverpool' in a meeting with Saints' executive director Les Reed on Friday night. Talk of a £20m bid from Liverpool has been too widespread and consistent to be nonsense.

Lallana may be joined at Liverpool by relegated Cardiff defender Steven Caulker, says the Daily Mirror, while the Daily Mail claim that the Reds' quest to find some competition for Simon Mignolet will take them to Swansea and a £5m bid for Michel Vorm.

This comes to us from France via the Daily Star, who claim that Frenchman Lioc Remy is on Tottenham's wanted list for next season after his 14 goals on loan at Newcastle. That could put them on a collision course with Arsenal, who have longed been linked with a £12m move for the QPR striker. Yes, he really is still a QPR striker.
