VAN GAAL WANTS STROOTMAN
Who better to belatedly replace Roy Keane than the man known as the 'Dutch Roy Keane'? Kevin Strootman is the man with that moniker and the Sunday People claim that he is Louis van Gaal's big midfield target of the summer - assuming he becomes Manchester United manager, that is.

Strootman is ruled out of the World Cup with a knee injury but should be fit for the new season, which he could begin as a £30m United player. The People say: 'Van Gaal knows it will be tough to bring Bayern Munich's Toni Kroos to Old Trafford, but his relationship with Strootman could make a deal with Roma much easier.'


WHO'S IN FOR ARSENAL?
Let's start with the Sunday People's claim that Arsenal could be set to battle it out with Juventus for Barcelona's Alexis Sanchez, who will be available for £20m this summer. And talking of Barcelona, the Daily Star Sunday claim that the legendary Xavi has been offered to Arsenal and the two Manchester clubs, but that he is understandably leaning in the direction of the Gunners. How wonderful would that be?

Closer to home, the People are claiming Arsenal interest in Cardiff keeper David Marshall, while the Daily Star Sunday say that the Gunners could rival Everton for the permanent signing of Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry.


LIVERPOOL TO LOSE GAITAN
Quite how close Liverpool ever were to signing Benfica's Nico Gaitan is unclear but the Daily Star Sunday claim that Manchester City will 'pip' the Reds to the winger, just like they are likely to 'pip' them to the title.

Says the newspaper: 'He is also on Inter Milan's radar but City are understood to be leading the chase to sign him. Benfica do not want to negotiate until after the World Cup, though, when Gaitan's asking price could soar.'

Elsewhere, there seems a general consensus that Adam Lallana will join Liverpool before the World Cup for £20m.
