UNITED IN DOUBLE DUTCH SWOOP
Newspaper reports on just who Manchester United are going to sign this summer seem to be all falling pretty short so far, with Luke Shaw, Toni Kroos, Arjen Robben and Bastian Schweinsteiger stories that seem to have gone a touch quiet. The Daily Express is the latest to throw their hat into the ring, claiming that Louis van Gaal will try and sign Feyenoord's Dutch duo Jordy Clasie and Bruno Martins Indi.
The pair form part of Netherlands' provisional World Cup squad picked by the new Manchester United manager and, at 22, both are amongst some of the most highly-rated players in the Eredivisie. Clasie is a central midfielder (you may have heard United supporters opine that they would like that position to be strengthened) and Indi Martins is a central defender, a position that also needs boosting after the departure of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.
The paper also go as far as claiming that a deal would cost the club £30million for the pair, just £3m more than they are intending to spend on Shaw.
ARSENAL TO SIGN MARSHALL
To the Daily Telegraph now, who claim that Arsenal are looking to trump rivals Spurs for the signature of Cardiff goalkeeper David Marshall.
There is no doubt that Marshall performed excellently last season, but with a fee of around £15million being mooted for the 29-year-old, can't say that it all screams like value for money to us. Also, given the fact that the paper believes that Wojciech Szczesny would remain as the no. 1 at the club, that seems like a huge fee for a back-up goalkeeper.
Having spent seven seasons in the Championship since moving from Celtic to Norwich in 2007, Marshall has only managed to gain 11 Scotland caps. Hmmm.
LIVERPOOL IN FOR BOLASIE
And now off to the Daily Star. You're never going to believe this, but they have opted for an 'Exclusive'. The deal in question is a Liverpool move for Yannick Bolasie, who played so wonderfully well against Brendan Rodgers' side during their 3-3 draw earlier this month.
Whilst we rather think that Liverpool might be aiming for a slightly higher calibre of player than the 25-year-old winger, with Bolasie thought to be available for around £2.5million with his contract expiring next summer, he may well be a useful squad addition.
Hillingdon Borough, Plymouth, Rushden, Barnet, Bristol City, Crystal Palace, Liverpool. It would be quite the rise for the French-born Congolese international.
CHELSEA WANT VARANE
When Chelsea look close to selling one of their defensive options for a fee approaching £50million it becomes clear that replacements will be rumoured, and the Daily Mirror today claim that Jose Mourinho is interested in buying Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.
It's a rumour that just won't go away and, in fairness, is a story that makes a great deal of sense, given that Varane has already worked under Mourinho at Rea, and proved himself to be both resolute and absolutely mental in the Champions League final when he got into a spat with Diego Simeone.
With the highly-rated Kurt Zouma already joined from St Etienne and Tomas Kalas impressing on his debut, there seems a fair chance that Chelsea may have the future of their defence looking very shiny indeed.
