Man United could drop out of Di Maria race, but they do want Khedira. And Spurs chase Loic Remy for £11m...
LIVERPOOL IN FOR BALOTELLI
Like James Richardson with a Cappucino in a piazza, the Gossip has travelled to Italy this morning to see what Tuttosport has got to say for itself. And they are telling us that Liverpool might aim to replace Luis Suarez with Mario Balotelli. Frying pan, meet fire.
Given the incessant rumours regarding the Italian's future it seems fairly clear that Balotelli is looking for a way out of Milan, something confirmed by his agent Mino Raiola.
"Maybe it was a mistake to bring Mario back to Italy," Raiola said. "For him it is essential to go where he is loved, and at AC Milan some people love him and some do not."
A return to England seems to be the most likely move, and with Arsene Wenger pouring cold water on talk of Arsenal making a move, that probably leaves Chelsea and Liverpool as the two most realistic options. We'll believe it when we see it, though.
COLOMBIA STAR WANTS ARSENAL MOVE
Sorry to have teased you in Arsenal fans, but it isn't James Rodriguez. However, given the necessity for a striker to support Olivier Giroud, perhaps the news in the Daily Express that Colombia forward Jackson Martinez is seemingly desperate for a move to the club should make you happy too.
"I know that there have been discussions, but still no agreements," Martinez said.
"My agent is taking care of my future, right now I'm at the World Cup and only after the World Cup I'll evaluate proposals. As a child I cheered for Arsenal, they play a game that suits me. If I had the occasion to play there, I would say yes."
We'd note that down as a pretty blatant 'come and get me' plea.
UNITED TO MAKE HUMMELS BID
The Metro this morning go big on the claim that Manchester United will make one last-ditch attempt to bring Mats Hummels from Borussia Dortmund to Old Trafford, by making the Bundesliga club a 'take-it-or-leave-it' offer.
Rather oddly, the paper claim that such an offer will be £20million, which sounds on the low side to us given that Real Madrid and Barcelona have also shown interest. The very low side.
If that is truly United's 'take-it-or-leave-it' offer, we would strongly suspect that Dortmund might politely say "leave it, thanks", before showing United to the door and locking it behind them.
AND THE REST
Swansea City frontman Michu, 28, wants to return to Spain and join champions Atletico Madrid... Manchester City have agreed a deal to sign Roma centre-back Mehdi Benatia, 27, but must wait for the Italian side to sign a replacement... Southampton have agreed a £10million deal for FC Twente winger Dusan Tadic to replace Liverpool's new signing Adam Lallana... Tottenham have entered the race for Manchester City forward Alvaro Negredo... Spurs have told Napoli that midfielder Sandro will cost £20m.
The problem with the Ozil signing was that he was a round peg for a square hole (or a square peg for a round hole..). We obviously wanted a striker so the Ozil signing seemed opportunistic rather than us getting a long term target and that doesn't inspire confidence. We'll just have to see at the start of the season- Jay_D
