Brendan Rodgers is reportedly set to step up his interest in Mario Balotelli after Daniel Sturridge was forced to fly home from the Reds' tour of the US with a hamstring injury.

According to the Daily Express, Balotelli could be on the market for as little as £14m, with Rodgers having plenty of positive things to say about the striker on Saturday.

"Balotelli has all the qualities (I like)," said Rodgers. "He's 6'3", he's quick, his touch is terrific, he can score goals and he's still so young.

"I saw that in this time at Inter as a young player and obviously going to Manchester City when we had a real close eye on him there. He's a big talent."

We have to admit, we'd love to see him back in the Premier League.

It looks like Manchester United will face strong competition for Mats Hummels from Premier League rivals Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger has admitted that Thomas Vermaelen could be sold this summer - with United a possible destination - forcing the manager to look for defensive reinforcements.

And the Daily Mirror report: 'Arsene Wenger wants to be kept informed about the availability of Mats Hummels.

'He wants to sign a world-class central defender if Vermaelen leaves and is aware that Hummels could become available.'

Despite Dortmund's insistence that Hummels won't be allowed to leave, it's thought the Germany international could be available for around £30m.

Meanwhile, The Sun claim Basel defender Fabian Schar - who's valued at around £6m - is also on Wenger's shortlist.

According to the Daily Mail, Southampton are set to start a £70m spending spree to replace their 'lost boys'.

And it looks like Ronaldo Koeman has set his targets high, with Manchester United trio Javier Hernandez, Wilfried Zaha and Ashley Young all reportedly on the manager's wishlist.

'The south coast club want United's Mexican striker Javier Hernandez and either Wilfried Zaha or Ashley Young, depending on which winger Louis van Gaal is prepared to sell,' report the Mail.

'But they will have to act fast if they want to land Zaha the player having 'agreed terms' with three clubs QPR, West Ham and former club Palace.

'New Saints boss Ronald Koeman has also targeted Dutch duo Ron Vlaar of Aston Villa and Celtic's Virgil van Dijk, while Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster is another target.'

Jack Rodwell has also been linked to Saints, but apparently Napoli are eyeing a move for the Manchester City midfielder.

Gunnergremlin - completely agree. In a bored moment in work today, I read through quite a few Express stories, and they manage to miss/twist every single point. Goddam clickbaiters.
