Ronaldo won't return to Man United for at least two years, Chelsea chasing Barkley, Mourinho wants Benfica's Talisca...

The Daily Mirror (amongst others) report that Rodgers has ruled out a move for Balotelli after previously praising the Milan striker. Some of the papers had claimed Balotelli's potentially cut-price fee could tempt Liverpool into making a move, with Daniel Sturridge and Rickie Lambert the only two frontline strikers at the club that Rodgers seems to want (sorry Fabio).

"I was asked the question about Balotelli and spoke about what a talent he is and excellent player he is," Brendan spoilsport Rodgers said.

"I can categorically tell you that he will not be at Liverpool.

"He is a wonderful player, but an AC Milan player. I just gave my opinion of him, but that doesn't mean I will be signing him."

Sob, sob.

SPURS IN FOR MUSACCHIO
With both Michael Dawson and Vlad Chiriches linked with moves away from Spurs, it might be a good idea to bring a couple of defenders in, given that, even before the potential sale of those two, supporters were looking at the club's defensive options with a good deal of concern.

It now appears that Argentinean Mateo Musacchio may be the answer, with The Times claiming that the Villarreal central defender will move to White Hart Lane for a fee of around £17million.

The 23-year-old impressed in La Liga last season, and his club coach Marcelino has publicly admitted that a deal for him to leave looks likely.

"It's a situation with three parties: the player, the buyer and the club in the middle and, as I have said many times, if the club sell an important player it's because the right conditions to do so have been met," Marcelino said.

"Mateo is a very important player for Villarreal. He's an excellent player and will be a difficult loss to cover, especially as he plays in a tough position to reinforce."

FALCAO GOING NOWHERE
Most people may have already pencilled in Radamel Falcao's move to Real as close to being a done deal but, after the striker scored against Arsenal on his return from long-term injury, Monaco are certainly digging their heels in.

After already losing one Colombian to Real Madrid for an exorbitant fee, it's quite easy to see why Monaco would quite like to keep hold of Falcao. It's not like they are short of cash, either. That very much seems to be the view of manager Leonardo Jardim and president Vadim Vasilyev.

"At this point Falcao is our player and he's with us 100 per cent and we don't want to let him go," Jardim said.

"It's a pity we lost James but we can count on Falcao staying. Regardless of what people say, he's our player. He's in the final stages of his recovery and he'll be with us this season."

Vasilyev is equally adamant, if a little pithier. "Falcao will be with Monaco for the 2014-15 season," he said.

So now you know.
