Man United and Real battle for Aymeric Laporte, Schneiderlin out and Clasie in at Saints and Destro for Spurs...
UNITED IN TRIPLE SWOOP (NOT VIDAL)
The wheels on the United rumour bus just keep on turning. It's now almost impossible to find new names (and the Daily Mail don't try to do so), but they have at least grouped three potential recruits together and sold it as 'United set to splash £80million'. Ballsy.
£50million Angel di Maria is one of those players, described by the Mail as 'close to PSG move in huge blow to Manchester United hopes' just last month, with Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind the other two. The deal for Rojo is surely the closest, given that the defender has told Sporting Lisbon that he has every intention of making the move.
The paper also claim that Ed Woodward was in Cardiff last night to both watch the Super Cup and hold talks with Di Maria. We have visions of him leaning over the Real Madrid bench and asking for a chat/autograph.
SPURS PUT 11 (ELEVEN) UP FOR SALE
With Mauricio Pochettino admitting that he needs to trim the fat from his Tottenham squad, the Daily Telegraph have added two and two together to make an impressive figure of 11 players that the club would sell.
It's rather odd to name so many, principally because they include the line that Pochettino is 'willing to listen to offers' for those players. A) He doesn't have a choice, clubs can make offers for any player and Daniel Levy is in charge and B) Surely every player in his squad has a price? If someone offered him £40million for Paulinho we rather think he'd sell, and the Brazilian is not even on the Telegraph's list.
Anyway, rather than just being cynical let's give you the list of players: Andros Townsend, Aaron Lennon, Roberto Soldado, Michael Dawson, Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Kyle Naughton, Vlad Chiriches, Sandro, Etienne Capoue, Nacer Chadli and Moussa Dembele. And breathe.
If they sold Soldado, it would leave them with an entire strike force of Emmanuel Adebayor and Harry Kane for four competitions. Wouldn't fancy Spurs' form when Adebayor goes off to the African Cup of Nations in January.
ARSENAL IN FOR TIOTE
Slightly odd one this in the Daily Mirror, who claim that Arsenal are interested in signing Newcastle's Cheik Tiote. Odd in the sense that it's come out of nowhere, odd in the sense that it would have made sense three years ago but not now and odd in the sense that Tiote hasn't actually been brilliant over the last two years. Most Newcastle fans we know would be happy with that money.
The paper claim that Arsene Wenger is 'preparing' an £8million bid. We assume that means turning on the computer to send an email, and also claim that Tiote is keen on a move to north London. Watch this space.
Aim for Sami Khedira and William Carvalho and end up with Cheik Tiote. It's all a little underwhelming.
