TURAN ANOTHER UNITED OPTION...
With talk of Angel di Maria now going a touch quiet, the papers need to draw a new name out of their hat for United's midfield. Atletico Madrid's Arda Turan is that man. So say the Daily Mirror.
The Turkish winger has been talked about infrequently this summer regarding a move to Old Trafford, but nothing has really got off the ground as yet. The Mirror claim that Van Gaal is keen on the 27-year-old, who would be available for a fee of around £15million.
They also claim that this could see United on a 'collision course' against Liverpool, who apparently also wish to sign Turan.
Not for us, I'm afraid.
...AND HERNANDEZ'S AGENT PIPES UP ON VIDAL
We rather thought that every single person ever connected with Manchester United and Juventus had had their say on the Arturo Vidal affair, but it appears that Javier Hernandez's agent hasn't thrown in his twopenneth worth yet. Oh no...wait, he now has.
"For now I cannot comment on the situation," agent Eduardo Hernandez told reporters in South America. "I have no news at the moment on an exchange, I haven't spoken to anyone in England, but there will be news soon."
So "can't comment" but am commenting, "no news" but there will be news. Thanks for that Eduardo.
ATLETICO START SCHURRLE TALKS
We can't imagine Chelsea selling Andre Schurrle in a month of Sonntags, but the Daily Mail today run with the claim that Atletico Madrid have 'opened talks' with Chelsea.
We are hugely intrigued as to what 'opened talks' means in this context, given that even the Mail themselves accept that 'Jose Mourinho though would prefer to sell other foreign players rather than the versatile forward' and 'the 23-year-old would appear to want to stay at Stamford Bridge'.
So Chelsea don't want him to leave and the player doesn't want to go, and yet a club have 'opened talks'. Well colour us unconvinced.
ARSENAL IN FOR MBIA
Another day, and another pretty underwhelming midfielder linked with Arsenal in the papers. Yesterday it was Cheik Tiote rumoured to be interesting Arsene Wenger.
Stephane Mbia is that man, with the Daily Star believing that Wenger will approach the midfielder after he was released by QPR at the end of last season. Really?
Mbia made 30 appearances for Sevilla last season after leaving Loftus Road on loan, and the Star claim that he would be far cheaper than Sami Khedira, Arsenal's first choice. Well yes, he'd be free.
The paper also claim that Newcastle, West Ham and Crystal Palace are also interested in Mbia, whilst also claiming that Arsenal are interested in Salomon Kalou. Is this just a trolling exercise?
