UNITED IN TALKS FOR BENATIA
After an opening day home defeat to Swansea in which Ashley Young, Tyler Blackett and Jesse Lingard were all given starting roles with defensive duties, it comes as no surprise that Manchester United have made a push for new recruits at the back.

The first of those could well be Roma's Mehdi Benatia, a player that this gossiper believes will take the Premier League by storm. Our chums at Sky Sports (hi guys!) report that talks are continuing between the two clubs in an effort to bring the French-born Moroccan defender to Old Trafford.

If Louis van Gaal is to continue his 3-5-2 formation then he is going to need more than just Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Blackett as options. Manchester City were reportedly scouting Benatia, but instead opted for Eliaquim Mangala. With additonal rumours of Chelsea interest, however, United would be advised to move quickly. Somebody wake up Ed Woodward.

LIVERPOOL STILL WANT FALCAO

With Brendan Rodgers claiming on Friday that he still wants one or two players to complete his Liverpool squad, it would be fair to say that a striker is top of that list. Rickie Lambert and an unwanted Fabio Borini do not form the most solid of back-ups to Daniel Sturridge, that much is clear.

The Mail on Sunday claim that Radamel Falcao is still on Rodgers' radar, which seems a little hopeful given that Monaco manager Leonardo Jardim has insisted that the Colombian will not be leaving the club.

However, the Mail do concede that Falcao would much prefer a move to Real Madrid rather than Liverpool, who would surely have to pay around £50million to secure his services after an initial season-long loan. Monaco are reportedly asking for a £12million loan fee too.

Let's just say you can colour us unconvinced.

WENGER TO PERSUADE RABIOT

It seems pretty clear to us that Paris Saint Germain midfielder Adrian Rabiot is going to be an absolute star.

Weirdly (if the Daily Express' story is true), it seems the only ones who don't share such a view are PSG themselves, because the paper is reporting this morning that they are prepared to let Rabiot leave for as little as £5.5million after the midfielder rejected a new deal at the Parc des Princes.

Rabiot only turned 19 in April, and is French. He can play as a sitting midfielder or further up the pitch if needed, and prefers to glide across the pitch rather than haring around.

I don't even know if it is possible to describe a more Arsene Wenger type player, and he's even available on the cheap with under a year left on his contract in France.

The Express also report that Juventus and Roma have been given permission to speak to the player and his agent (his mother, Veronique), with some reports suggesting Juventus are the closest to a deal.
