ARSENAL IN FOR LUIZ GUSTAVO
Not quite sure if it counts as retro, but going all 2013 on you with our first story, the Daily Mirror reporting that Arsene Wenger is interested in signing Luiz Gustavo from Wolfsburg.

The potential signing of Gustavo was one of the sagas of last summer, with the Brazilian eventually choosing Wolfsburg after reportedly being unable to get any guarantees of regular football from Arsene Wenger.

However, with Arsenal now in the need for a defensive midfielder (and preferably one that can also play in central defence), Gustavo has appeared back on the radar.

WELBECK OR ETO'O FOR EVERTON
It is pretty clear that Roberto Martinez currently has his striker eggs piled into one basket marked 'Romelu Lukaku'. Everton will play in four competitions this season, and their forward options currently comprise of Lukaku, Arouna Kone, Steven Naismith and Kevin Mirallas. It's just not enough.

The papers land on two particular names to solve Martinez's evident shortage. The first is Danny Welbeck, with The Times and Mirror both reporting that the versatile Manchester United forward very much belongs on Everton's wishlist.

The Mirror (and Star too) also add Samuel Eto'o to that list, another name that has been doing the rounds for a while after his release from Chelsea. However, with it reported that Eto'o was asking for a two-year deal worth £100,000 a week at Liverpool, one suspects that there is a fair difference in expectation gap between Everton and the striker. We'd say a move to the Middle East is more likely.

PODOLSKI OFF TO JUVE
Whilst Arsenal fans look to be busying themselves with aspirations of players arriving at the Emirates, the most likely impending transfer appears to be a player leaving the club.

Most of the papers this morning run with the story that Lukas Podolski will be allowed to begin talks with Juventus over a loan move to the Serie A champions.

Podolski is an odd one, actually. He has scored 28 goals in 69 appearances for Arsenal since signing for £11m, but yet appears to have no place within Arsene Wenger's 4-3-3 formation. The 29-year-old won the World Cup six weeks ago and yet is seemingly unwanted at club level, starting just 14 league matches last season.

One presumes that Arsenal would quite like Juventus to pay all of the German's £100,000 a week wages.
