The 20-year-old Republic of Ireland Under-21 international is expected to go straight into the squad for this weekend's League One match at Colchester.

Smith has made five first-team appearances for Watford this season and came on at half-time during Saturday's 1-1 draw at Bristol City in the FA Cup. He also scored against Gillingham in a pre-season friendly at Priestfield.
