West Brom not selling Olsson

Arsenal are reportedly among the clubs who are considering a January bid for Jonas Olsson, but West Bromwich Albion insist the defender is going nowhere.

Jonas Olsson: The centre-back has been linked with Arsenal and clubs in Turkey

The centre-back has built a formidable reputation over recent seasons in the Premier League since moving to The Hawthorns in a bargain £800,000 deal from NEC Nijmegen in 2008.

West Brom last summer took steps to ensure Olsson would not leave and gave the Swede a new four-year contract but the terms are rumoured to include a £3million release clause.

That has led to speculation of bids from several Premier League rivals, particularly Arsenal, and also clubs in Turkey, but the 29-year-old has no plans to leave.

"It's flattering with the interest but I am focusing on West Bromwich Albion and the current season." Olsson told Expressen.

"I am happy at the club and, as I have said before, it should be something attractive if I should leave West Brom."

Olsson's club are similarly keen to keep one of their best players and Steve Clarke, who has guided the Baggies to an impressive seventh place so far this season, has no plans to sell.

Ahead of Saturday's FA Cup third round tie at Queens Park Rangers, he said in the Express and Star: "We can hang on to every single player. We don't have to sell anybody.

"Speculation is natural, because people make up stories to generate the interest. I know they make them up.

"But it's not unsettling for me in anyway, because I know that, come 1st February, the players that I need to be here will still be here."
