Gera is now a free agent after seeing his previous contract with the Baggies run down.

No extension was agreed before the end of the 2012/13 campaign as the Hungarian was working his way back from a serious knee ligament injury.

He is making steady progress in his rehabilitation and has always maintained that his preference would be to stay at The Hawthorns.

Gera could be about to get his wish, with the 34-year-old revealing that a new deal has been discussed but not presented.

He told Nemzeti Sport: "I'm calm because the club has already indicated that they need my services and want me to stay in Birmingham.

"The ideal situation would be if I knew the conditions of my contract.

"I'd like to stay, I've never made any secret of that. I want to thank the team a lot because they have stood by my through my injuries.

"I might be a bit impatient because I haven't received the contract offer yet, but I think it will be done this week."

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
