Last season, under Steve Clarke, the Baggies finished eighth in the Premier League and were widely praised for their attacking style.

However, they have only won four league games thus far in 2013/14 - the same amount as the three clubs currently occupying the relegation zone places.

Clarke was sacked in mid-December and Albion have won just once since, although they have also claimed four draws in that time.

Defender Ridgewell does not think the team has deteriorated this season and believes new manager Pepe Mel can do the business.

"I wouldn't say it has been a season of underachievement," said Ridgewell. "We are trying to emulate what we did last year, which is difficult.

"We did well when Keith (Downing) took charge, and everyone was upbeat and working hard for the club. Hopefully we can carry that on under the new gaffer."

Ridgewell knows Albion must turn some of their draws into wins if they are to be sure of safety. They currently sit 13th, four points above the drop zone.

"We know draws are all well and good, but we need to start turning them into wins," added the 29-year-old to the club's official website.

"That's what will take us up the league. It's very tight. If anyone sticks a run together, they can soon get out of it."

West Brom travel to Aston Villa next Wednesday for Pepe Mel's first taste of a West Midlands derby.

m only commenting on this (I don't care about Liverpool) because F365's twitter said I had call Matt Stanger a tw*t (which I don't agree with anyway) but I just wanted to be the first. Am I the first?

S

unday, Sunday. Will there be a fan of either team, who if they are winning after 80 mins, won't still be nervous? This could be anything from 0-0 to 5-5, and no one would bat an eye.
