Pepe Mel's side, who drew 1-1 with relegation rivals Fulham last weekend, are just one point above the Barclays Premier League's bottom three.
Olsson believes the team should not be worrying about the results of other teams and focusing on their own.
The Swede told the club's website: "We just need to concentrate on our bit and hopefully by doing so we won't be depending on other results and other games.
"I think we're heading the right way - and I don't think we should over-analyse things.
"I think it's a league where you have tough seasons and there are very small margins.
"It is very tight this year, so there are eight, nine or maybe 10 teams in the same position we're in."
