Carson is back in England after two seasons with Turkish side Bursaspor and a good run of form could see him back in the international picture after nearly two years in exile.

Roy Hodgson has opted for Manchester City's Joe Hart, West Brom's Ben Foster and John Ruddy of Norwich as his keepers for the midweek friendly with Scotland and Carson knows he will have to perform at his best to have any chance of breaking back into the squad.

"I want to get back into the squads, but I think it's going to be difficult," Carson said.

"There are a lot of keepers who have come in and out now. Fraser Forster's playing at Celtic, Alex McCarthy at Reading is in the same situation as me.

"This season I'm just concentrating on getting Wigan back in the Premier League and hopefully trying to have a good season."

Carson saved a Danny Welbeck penalty in Wigan's 2-0 defeat in the Community Shield at Wembley and he hopes they can carry their performance back into Sky Bet Championship action against Bournemouth.

"It (the Community Shield) is going to stand us in good stead, but we know the Championship's totally different to this," Carson added. "We proved last week against Barnsley we're more than capable of knuckling down and trying to get a performance."

reat article. Hits the nail on the head. Encapsulates why I don't read tabloid newspapers anymore. The only thing worse is the 'told you so first' headline when they get lucky.

amous. If that can be achieved whilst sitting in your pants and without any degree of hard work, all the better. I have no desire to be famous, but the rest of that line suits me just fine. Great article by the way, well worth the wait.

here seems to be little focus on the performance of Besiktas. They played very well and stopped Arsenal from playing. Credit has to go to their manager. As much as Arsenal didn't play too well, we kept a clean sheet, but the home side made it very difficult.
