Dyche happy with point gained

Wigan recorded their second stalemate in the space of 72 hours to remain in mid-table, with the Clarets proving too difficult to break down.

Former Burnley man Chris McCann came closest to scoring for Wigan - only to see his early header cleared off the line.

However, the Clarets also showed their danger and had the best opportunity to break the deadlock, in first-half stoppage-time.

Former Wigan midfielder David Jones pulled the trigger from the edge of the area only to see Ali Al Habsi touch the ball on the bar. After the ball hit Al Habsi's back and rolled goalwards, Leon Barnett then got back to clear the ball - with Danny Ings inches away from sliding the ball in.

"I don't know how the ball has hit their goalkeeper on the back and not gone in. That was an interesting one," acknowledged Dyche.

"Our goalkeeper's not made a save the entire game, which says a lot.

"But overall I think it was a fantastic point - and the reason for that is it was the toughest game on the fixture list today.

"They've got a new manager, arguably one of the best and deepest squads in the division, and we had to tactically perform very well.

"The only question was breaking from our tactical shape and trying to hurt the opposition."

As a result of the point, Burnley slipped down to third in the Championship with Derby - Wigan's next opponents - moving up to second.

Dyche, though, is not concerned in the slightest.

"The only team who are winning every single week at the moment is Derby," he added.

"With all due respect, it'll be interesting to see what happens when they play the teams at the top of the table.

"During their good run they've only played one team in the top half.

"That's no disrespect to anyone, just the reality of the situation.

Wigan boss Uwe Rosler admitted he was satisfied with the point that continues the unbeaten record under his stewardship.

"I was very happy," the German said.

"We had to make changes once again, and we've still not managed to maintain a consistent spine of the team.

"Despite that we gave one of the best teams in the league a hard time.

"I felt it was 50/50 - we created chances but so did they - and unfortunately we couldn't take one.

"I was happy with the application, the tempo, the energy, the willingness to attack. We looked stronger than them in the second half, but there is a reason why they are a top team.

"They defend very well and we didn't have enough to unlock the door."

t's a bloody good goal, though. Sh!t, the kid's gonna be the worlds best before we know it, isn't he? He's got the touch of genius in him. Like Neymar, but with muscles and stuff. He's doing a Ronaldo as we watch. He's bulked up to be able to ride the tackles, but he's improved technically as well. His touch is sublime. Bugger.
