Dean Saunders: Players good enough to stay in the division

The Welshman is still waiting for his first win since taking charge a month ago, drawing two and losing two of his four matches, with promotion hopefuls Wanderers now winless in eight in all competitions.

It is a sequence which has left the club teetering just above the drop zone, but Saunders, while recognising the immediate threat, is confident Wolves have got the quality to get themselves out of trouble and climb up the table.

"We've got enough to keep us in the division as we are," he told the club's official website. "We've got good enough players.

"I watched them train on Monday morning and there are a lot of them who train properly, they put their foot in and they want to win. They're all moaning about decisions and the attitude has been good in training. But I've been brought here because something is wrong. I've got to sort it out and I will.

"Is it now a battle to stay up? You look at the league table and think 'we shouldn't be there'. But if we're not careful, it (relegation) can happen.

"You can slide into trouble like we've done. We stopped the rot with two draws and we had two narrow defeats which could have gone the other way and if we'd won, we could be 12th or 13th. So I don't think we're far away from putting a run together.

"Although we've done alright performance-wise - we've drawn two and lost two - the teams around us and below seem to have won, so my main objective now is we stay up.

"But we were talking about it on Monday morning and if we win a couple of games, we can get to 13th quite quickly. If we win one game, we can win five or six quite easily."
