The striker returned to his roots in January in a £750,000 switch from Coventry City.

He found the going tough back at Molineux, netting just once in 13 appearances.

Clarke is also yet to convince as a Championship goal-getter, and Wolves will be back in the second tier next season.

It has been suggested that Jackett is already scouring the market for another forward as the summer transfer window approaches, but he insists there will be a role for Clarke in 2014/15.

He told the Express and Star: "He's got a lot to prove coming here, because he hasn't had the opportunities.

"There is history and supporters set very high standards for players - and so they should.

"It's up to all of us, myself included, to match those standards and if it doesn't quite work out, you have to persevere, show your character, then you can come through as a very popular player when you show your resilience."

Jackett added: "You need a big centre-forward. And someone like him with a goalscoring pedigree, I'm certainly hoping his best few years are ahead of him and with a point to prove going into this division, like many of my players.

"In any formation, the one place you need to be top heavy is centre forwards.

"That's very important because in other areas you can cover and play people out of position, and, certainly while the window is still open, you can get loans.

"But strikers are a different market so if you're going to have one too many, it should be centre forwards."

t's wrong to be making a joke out of Bender's name at the expense of gay people. It's the kind of childish, uncivilised thing that Football365 would deride and ridicule if it was another media outlet saying. Why is there a need for jokes like this? Does it make your writers feel like men? F365 might suggest that I 'lighten up', but it is genuinely traumatic for people who have been oppressed all their lives to be the butt of jokes, and to be told...

ou can't blame De Gea for wanting to leave, he has enough to do in front of goal as it is as well as taking on the role of Man Utd's version of Derek Acorah in trying to contact and organise a defence that isn't there.
