Freedman backs stopper Bogdan

Bolton manager Dougie Freedman backed Adam Bogdan to bounce back after the Hungarian goalkeeper's howler saw Wanderers almost lose to Yeovil before Alex Baptiste's late goal salvaged a 1-1 draw at the Reebok.

Dougie Freedman: Supported his goalkeeper

Ed Upson's speculative effort from over 30 yards out looked to have been crawling into Bogdan's arms before the ball squirmed through his legs and agonisingly into the net.

Fortunately for Bogdan and the hosts, Baptiste's goal in stoppage-time brought the teams level and earned the Trotters a point which moves them off the foot of the Championship table, although they are still searching for their first win of the season.

Freedman was quick to support Bogdan after the match, but also believes the 26-year-old needs to improve his concentration if he is to make the most of his potential.

"Adam's alright he's a good big guy and he responds really well to this sort of thing," Freedman said.

"He made a couple of fantastic saves, but if I was going to criticise him at all it would be his concentration and I've told him to be a top-class keeper you need to have that.

"He's got all the right attributes to be top class and I think that his concentration has just let him down a bit today.

"Adam's got to dust himself down and get in training tomorrow with his chest up and chin up and ready to go against Blackpool.

"That's the message to all my players and Adam will certainly do that.

Freedman also insisted he can turn things round following the club's disappointing start to the season.

"I understand the fans frustration. They pay good money and they want short term results and that's completely fine with me," he added.

"I can fix this. I've been in this position before and I will fix this. I understand exactly what we have to do and I understand this division."

Yeovil manager Gary Johnson was enraged with Bolton's late equaliser which denied his side their first win in seven games.

Johnson believed the cross which eventually led to the goal went out of play but was proud of the effort that his players put in on his 58th birthday, with the Glovers moving out of the relegation zone.

Johnson said: "It's like a broken record, every week we seem to get something where somebody makes a poor decision.

"The lads are pretty adamant that the cross was out of play, which is why a few people stopped because they thought it was a yard out of play.

"Don't get me into that again, please don't ask me another question on it because I'm just about to go home and slash my wrists.

"We've got to be careful that you don't get too carried away with being disappointed with a point at Bolton.

"We're disappointed because we were 1-0 up, albeit a mistake from the keeper. Having said that, I thought at that time we looked the most likely to score and I was very pleased with our play during that time in the game.

"We definitely took the game to them, we looked the stronger and we got the goal. Of course, they then go and leave five or six people up there.

"There was that little bit of naivety and hopefully we will learn quickly from that."
