Klopp hopes Liverpool ‘learn’ from past mistakes

Jurgen Klopp hopes his Liverpool players “learn” from their Europa League draw with FC Augsburg last week.

The Reds struggled to contain the Bundesliga side in Germany this week, but will hope that they can build on a 0-0 draw in the return leg at Anfield on Thursday.

Liverpool face Manchester City in the Capital One Cup final just three days later on Sunday, but Klopp insists he and his players are fully concentrated on reaching the last 16 in Europe.

“If you think about the second step [cup final] before the first step [Augsburg] you will always fall down,” Klopp said. “Tomorrow’s game is exciting. I can’t think of a week since I’ve been here that hasn’t been important. We have to focus on getting through to the next round. We have to learn from last week.

“In this competition we’ve got big aims but that relies on performances and that’s what we have to show against Augsburg.

“The situation is clear to us. There’s no reason to play FC Augsburg’s game.

“Augsburg aren’t just a counter attacking team. We are aware of their quality.

“We need to assert ourselves and play our game.”
