23/24 Champions League group stage draw: Man Utd get Bayern; Newcastle given group of death
Manchester United have been handed Bayern Munich in Group A of the Champions League, while Newcastle United have been drawn in the group of death.
Holders Manchester City were the only Premier League club in pot one and they were drawn in Group G alongside RB Leipzig, who they hammered in the last 16 in 2022/23, Crvena Zvezda and Young Boys.
Arsenal were handed arguably the most favourable pot one side in Sevilla. They were the second pot two side out in the draw, joining the Europa League holders in Group B.
Mikel Arteta’s side will also play PSV Eindhoven, who they faced in the Europa League group stage last term, losing 2-0 away from home and winning 1-0 at the Emirates.
Manchester United have been given the huge task of taking on Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern Munich.
Their other Group A opponents are Danish side FC Copenhagen and Turkish giants Galatasaray.
Newcastle United will mark their return to the Champions League by taking on Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan in Group F. Ouch.
Elsewhere, last season’s finalists Inter were drawn in Group D with the team they beat in last season’s semi-final, Benfica. Also in their group are Salzburg and Real Sociedad.
Celtic were given a pretty decent draw, landing Feyenoord, Atletico Madrid and Lazio in Group E.
La Liga champions Barcelona face FC Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Royal Antwerp in Group H.
And Napoli and Real Madrid were drawn in Group C alongside Portuguese side Braga and German outfit Union Berlin.
