A saga! Alderweireld determined to force Manchester United move

Tottenham central defender is reportedly prepared to run down his contract in a bid to force a move to Manchester United.

Alderweireld has been eyed by United for some time, but Tottenham will only accept a bid of £75m for the Belgian.

United have refused to match that asking price, not least because a clause in Alderweireld’s contract means that he will be available for £25m next summer.

The Daily Mirror report that Alderweireld does not intend to sign a new contract at Spurs, and is prepared to turn down moves elsewhere to ensure that he gets his United chance.

It’s a difficult situation, but you can see Tottenham’s point. Why sell him now when they have no time to reinvest? Better to keep him and hope to change his mind over the next nine months. Fail to do so and you still get some money.
