Agbonlahor makes Chelsea claim as he tells Man Utd that they can still win the title

Man Utd duo Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial celebrate a goal

Gabby Agbonlahor thinks Man Utd should be aiming to win the Premier League title this season after they beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 on Tuesday.

Marcus Rashford, Antony Martial and Fred were on the scoresheet for the Red Devils against Forest with the victory moving Man Utd to within a point of fourth-placed Tottenham with a game in hand,

Their next two Premier League fixtures against Wolves and Bournemouth look like kind matches on paper before they face Man City and Arsenal in back-to-back games.

Despite their win on Tuesday night, Man Utd are still 11 points off the Premier League summit – but former Aston Villa striker Agbonlahor reckons they can still challenge for the title.

Agbonlahor said on talkSPORT: “I think they should be challenging higher than that. I think Manchester United should be challenging for the [Premier League] title.

“I look at that team when everyone is fit – you have David de Gea, Diogo Dalot has been in good form, you’ve got Raphael Varane and then Lisandro Martinez, who has just won a World Cup.

“We all know what Varane has done in his career, a top defender when he is on it. Luke Shaw left-back. You’ve got a midfield of Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen. That’s creativity.

“You’ve got Marcus Rashford and Antony who are top, top wingers. Antony’s got a lot to learn but he will get better. Then you’ve got Anthony Martial.

“Those 11 players there should be comfortably in the top four. I’d take their best XI over Chelsea’s best XI.”

Agbonlahor’s fellow pundit Jason Cundy has been impressed by the impact that Erik ten Hag has had since joining Man Utd earlier this year.

“There’s definitely something going on at United, they’re finding a way. You can see Ten Hag’s influence,” Cundy said.

“This is why I criticised Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the appointment, dreadful decision. Ralf Rangnick, dreadful decision. But this one, you can actually see there is real purpose, real hope, and the players are starting to believe in this, there’s a pattern.

“[Aaron] Wan-Bissaka who, let’s be honest is not the greatest full-back in the world, brilliant defensively. Wan-Bissaka is starting to play well, he’s being coached.

“This has been my criticism of other fans that have criticised players like Harry Maguire and Jadon Sancho. They haven’t been coached.

“Let them be coached by a proper coach, playing into a system where they’re playing themselves into a team, under a manager that believes in them and the players believe in him.

“All of a sudden, United are now starting to look like a team that can actually not just challenge top four, but actually start getting in amongst it and thinking ‘we can get second maybe, third?'”
