Aguero: Guardiola has made me a better player

Sergio Aguero has hailed Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola for improving him as a player.

The Argentina striker has had to adapt to Guardiola’s style but has enjoyed another fruitful season in front of goal as City stroll towards the Premier League title – despite Saturday’s stumble against their local rivals.

Aguero admits Guardiola is “demanding” but says the results are clear after another 30-goal season – just four short of his best for the club.

“I think being able to adapt to Pep’s playing style has a large contributing factor in my form this season,” Aguero told ManCity.com.

“I’m driven to keep on learning, and I have always been able to absorb the lessons of other coaches and put them to practice.

“Pep is very demanding, but I simply had to adapt my game and mindset and change how I play to his style.

“That means helping recover the ball, press, pass it around more, search for my teammates and remain open for passes to find the goal.

“It’s a continuous learning process, and I value that kind of thing as it helps me improve as a player.”

With the Carabao Cup already secured and the Premier League title is all but in the bag despite Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to United, City must overturn a 3-0 Champions League quarter-final first-leg deficit against Liverpool to extend their hopes of adding a third piece of silverware to the shelf this season.

And Aguero, who missed the defeat at Anfield through injury but could feature in Tuesday’s return, is hopeful City can produce one of the great comebacks.

“We’re prepared, and the whole staff is doing a great job to face what’s up ahead. I have a great deal of trust in the team, and the Champions League remains one of our objectives,” he said. “There is everything to play for.”
