Man Utd at risk of losing Garnacho as contract offer falls flat and Real Madrid circle

Manchester United’s latest contract offer to Alejandro Garnacho has reportedly fallen short as the player will now be evaluating his future.

Garnacho has had quite the impact since breaking into the first team this season. The 18-year-old has scored two goals and has been electric to watch.

His last-gasp winner against Fulham remains to be his best moment in a United shirt yet. However, the club may have a battle on their hands to keep him.

Garnacho’s current deal at Old Trafford runs until the summer of 2024, although the club does have the option of an extra year.

The Independent have claimed that he is currently collecting a weekly wage of £7,000 and Man United have offered him a fresh deal worth £20,000 per week.

Man United’s latest offer is said to fall well below his expectations on a new deal which could put Garnacho’s long-term future up in the air.

Along with United stalling on their contract talks, Garnacho is also attracting interest from around Europe. Juventus and Real Madrid are both said to be keeping tabs on the player.

The 18-year-old came through the Atletico Madrid academy and was picked up by Man United in 2020. His rapid rise through the United ranks means that he is now worth more than the contract he is currently on.

Erik ten Hag is keen to get the Man United wage bill under control, but he will surely be desperate to get Garnacho tied down to a new long-term deal.

Garnacho himself told the club website back in November that he was thankful to Ten Hag and the role he has played in his development.

“Erik Ten Hag is a very good manager and, above all, he’s a great person,” Garnacho explained. “He always pays very close attention to us all, and helps us a great deal, especially the young players.

“I’ve had to keep working hard until that moment came where I was given my opportunity. For the moment, I’m making the most of the opportunities he’s giving me.

“I don’t want to take a backward step from here, I’d like to appear regularly in the team and keep going in the same way.”

The Argentine winger has started in two Premier League matches this season and has been used as a substitute on five occasions.

Plenty of his minutes have come during the cup competitions as he has had a real impact in both the Europa League and League Cup.

Man United are on a five-game winning streak in the Premier League and they will be keen on keeping that momentum going.

Next up for Ten Hag’s side is a midweek clash against Crystal Palace, before they face top-of-the-table Arsenal at the weekend.
