Dele Alli has revealed that Son Heung-min was “devastated” by Andre Gomes’ injury in Tottenham’s 1-1 draw at Everton.
Alli‘s first Premier League away goal since January looked like giving the visitors their first win on the road in 10 months until Cenk Tosun’s late intervention.
But the comeback was clouded by a terrible injury to Gomes in the second half which saw Son initially yellow-carded before being shown a red by referee Martin Atkinson.
The Portugal international was caught by a late challenge but it was the way he fell awkwardly, as Serge Aurier closed in, which did the damage with his right ankle seemingly at right angles to his shin.
Alli on Gomes’ injury, he told Sky Sports: “Didn’t want to look too much at what happened. I want to send best wishes.
“Son is devastated and in tears. It’s not his fault. Son is one of nicest people you’ve ever met. He can’t even lift his head up, he’s crying so much.
“The injury does play on your mind but you have to stay professional.
“We switched off for a second and they scored.
On the match: “We have to keep believing as a team. The quality will come through.”
